Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Punctureseal?

A: Punctureseal, a puncture preventative, is a specialist blend of more than two dozen chemicals in a viscous liquid state.  It coats and clings to the inner walls of the tyre and wheel.  Punctureseal is water soluble and will not ball up or dry out.  It leaves no residue when rinsed out of a tyre or washed off any surface with water.  It does not adhere like glue.  Also, Punctureseal is non-flammable, non-volatile and non-toxic.

Q: How does Punctureseal work?

A: Punctureseal is injected though the valve and remains liquid inside the tyre for the entire life of the tyre.  By coating the entire inner surface of the tyre also Punctureseal conditions the casing, seals air leaks, and protects against most blowouts and air loss from punctures.  The first time the vehicle is driven for five miles or more, Punctureseal disperses throughout the entire air cavity.  Normal flexing of the tyre and centrifugal forces enable Punctureseal to seal the tyre so the correct air pressure will be maintained.

Q: How much do I need?

A: From as little as eight ounces per tyre for normal road vehicles depending on tyre size, to many ounces for the largest truck or off-road construction tyres.

Q: Is Punctureseal cost effective?

A: Yes.  Our fleet end-users report that Punctureseal reduces annual tyre maintenance costs, service calls and losses due to down time by an average of more than 75%.  It prevents punctures and blowouts,  improves fuel economy and enhances performance, provides safety, security and peace of mind from £35 per car, depending on tyre size.

Q: How long will it last?

A: For the legal tread life of the tyre.  Punctureseal does not cease to function or break down over time.

Q: Will Punctureseal freeze or evaporate during extreme weather?

A: No.  Punctureseal's ethylene glycol base (similar to anti-freeze) protects against heat and cold from minus 40ºC to over 150º C.

Q: Does Punctureseal collect at the bottom of the tyre or ball up?

A: No. Once the initial driving period has been achieved, Punctureseal will be thoroughly distributed throughout the entire inner surface of the tyre.

Q: How big a puncture can it repair?

A: Commercial grade seals wounds up to 1/4 inch (6 mm) in diameter formulated for any vehicle with pneumatic tyres, tube or tubeless.  Heavy Duty 'OTR' grade seals wounds up to 1/2" (12mm) in diameter.

Q: Will Punctureseal hide or mask a large or dangerous puncture?

A: No. In fact, Punctureseal's formulation purposely releases air from unsafe punctures or weakened tyre casings allowing the tyre to deflate in a controlled manor.

Q: Will Punctureseal corrode steel belts, wheels or cause rust?

A: No.

Q: Is it compatible with all tyre compounds?

A: Yes.

Q: Will Punctureseal cause problems with wheel balancing?

A: No. As long as wheels are balanced.

Q: Can a tyre containing Punctureseal be repaired or retreaded?

A: Yes.

Q: Does Punctureseal work in tube-type tyres?

A: Yes. See Technical Notes below.

Tube tyre technical information direct from the manufacturers.

A tube's thickness, strength, elasticity and reliability is unpredictable.  If your equipment requires tubes in the tyres, be sure to use radial tyres.  The initial cost may be slightly more, however, the savings and reliability is greatly increased. By installing Punctureseal into a tube the problem can be reduced as Punctureseal will act as a puncture sealer (at a cost of less than a tube in most cases).  Tubes "squirm" inside a tyre at high speeds.  If the puncturing object is left in the tyre and tube, it may rip the tube.  Then even Punctureseal may not be able to help.  We recommend that nails be removed on a routine basis and the tyres' air pressure be maintained at maximum PSI to reduce the squirming.
